For 2012 only, participating boats may depart alternative NC inlets to include Oregon Inlet, Hatteras Inlet, Ocracoke Inlet or Beaufort Inlet. The NC Governor’s Cup will be providing state certified scales at Pirate’s Cove Marina in Manteo, Hatteras Harbor Marina in Hatteras Village and at Big Rock Landing in Morehead City. Festivities at the Hatteras Village Civic Center will take place as planned including the Kick-Off Tuesday, May 15, the Cookout at the Hatteras Marlin Club on Thursday, May 17 and the Awards Banquet Saturday, May 19. Registration information is available via the tournament website (www.hatterasoffshoreopen.com) and should be available at the additional weigh station locations on Tuesday, May 15. The official registration will take place at the Hatteras Village Civic Center from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with the Captain’s meeting taking place at 7:00 pm. Remote registration is available, but confirmation via email or phone is encouraged to ensure correct information, an official tournament “Boat Number” must be assigned upon each registration completion and acceptance. Additional details regarding registration from Oregon & Beaufort Inlets will be available as soon as they are in place. There have been no other changes to the tournament format and the tournament remains the first event in the North Carolina Governor’s Cup Series!
This 2012 only amendment was deliberated following a briefing with the USACE regarding the dredging of the Hatteras Channel. Although some charter boats and other commercial and recreational traffic are continuing to navigate the ferry channels successfully, the ferry service has suspended or delayed navigation intermittently. The USACE indicates that their focus will be to cut a new channel between buoys 9 and 13 with no funding to enable any interim mitigation. The dredging will commence on Saturday 5/12 with a projected completion date of 5/22.
The tournament asks that interested participants please provide their contact information so that additional details and updates can be provided directly via email or phone. The website and facebook page should host the same information as it is made available. The tournament asks that all bear with us as we work to coordinate the additional details entailed and to recognize that this is a one time concession for the 2012 tournament alone due to current circumstances.
Hatteras Village marinas welcome inquiries and are poised to accommodate additional vessels; all current concerns should be fully addressed by the dredging plan in place which officials declare will be completed by May 22. In addition to the HVOO, the inlet is poised to welcome participants for the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the Hatteras Marlin Club Tournament and the Hatteras Grand Slam.
